"What is a Special Assessment District?"

Special Assessment Districts (SADs) are charges that are not based on the taxable value of your home. SADs can appear on your property tax statements with a millage rate of 0.0000 or no millage rate at all. They are for improvements (e.g. Roads) or services (e.g. Trash Pickup) that are funded either outside or alongside of other tax monies. They can be created via petitions or through a ballot initiative/proposal.

The primary statute of the Michigan Compiled Law that Birch Run Township Operates our Special Assessments under is Public Act 188 of 1954, as amended.
